After winning six medals at the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang and being awarded the “German Female Para Athlete of the Year” in 2018, Andrea Eskau started off the new year in style at the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships in Prince George, Canada.

The 47-year-old, nicknamed the “tigress”, entered seven biathlon and cross-country competitions in her TMG-prepared ski sled and came home with one silver and four bronze medals.

“It is great fun and a fantastic feeling to be at the start line with a start number on your back, especially when the conditions are as wonderful as here”, Andrea said in an interview with the German TV station ARD. The “tigress” might have missed a gold medal this time, but she was still happy with her performance. “You just have to consider that my competitors could be my daughters. If you take this into account, I think I presented myself pretty well.”

For Andrea, the 2018/2019 winter sports season comes to an end with the World Championships in Prince George, but this does not mean that she will have a summer break. In May, her para-cycling season will start with the big goal of qualifying for the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo which she will tackle in a new handbike prepared by TMG.
