The employees of Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) naturally have a close relationship to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, but from July 27 to 29 they took to the “Green Hell” with a slightly different goal. This time, a group of TMG team members did not go to the Ring in order to test or develop a car, they took part in the Rad am Ring bike race.

The annual event has been held since 2003 and incorporates both road racing and mountain bike categories over various distances ranging from a 22km sprint to a full 24-hour endurance race. This year a record of 8,700 riders took part in the cycling event.

TMG teams participated in various classes with four teams even taking up the Le Mans-style 24-hour race. Although they might not have clinched a 1-2 overall victory as the Toyota TS050 HYBRIDs six weeks earlier at the Circuit de la Sarthe, the cyclists were extremely happy. “It was a really great event and all teams would like to give a big thank you to the workshops and the logistics organisations as well as Business Development and the canteen for their support,” said TMG Senior Project Coordinator Martin Duke who took part in the 75km race.
