23. December 2011
The new Toyota hybrid racer, which will compete in selected rounds of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship, began to take shape in the penultimate week of 2011.
The lightweight carbon fibre monocoque rolled out of the composites department at Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) ready for assembly in the chassis workshop.
With Christmas approaching, team mechanics set to work on assembling chassis number one, which will begin testing in January with Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima behind the wheel.
The painstaking process of assembling the new Toyota LMP1 car began in earnest on 19 December, when front suspension elements we fitted. Assembly of a high-tech prototype takes time and it will be a busy Christmas time for the team’s mechanics.
Behind the scenes, other preparations are feverishly underway to prepare the car and team for the coming season, with a new car livery finalized any ready for production.
All the hard work will be worthwhile when the hybrid LMP1 car rolls out of a garage in January and begins a new chapter in Toyota’s endurance racing history.
